Forensic Pathology Services, a department of local government based at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town have recently upgraded all their existing dictation equipment to the new Olympus DS-7000 recorders and AS-7000 transcription kits. The devices are to be used in conjunction with Olympus Microscopes by the Pathologists to generate their reports.
The move from their existing Olympus DS-3300’s and AS-4000’s stemmed mainly from a compatibility point of view with their new PC infrastructure. Due to the new PC equipment the install was done from scratch meaning no updating from the existing versions of the Olympus software. The 10 DS-7000’s and 3 AS-7000’s were all set up making use of the internal network, this means dictation files are transferred directly via the company wide network instead of using the email system. One of the big advantages of this setup is it allows for instantaneous download and transcription of the work, it also allows us to customize the setup of the system to perfectly suit the clients specific needs. With the new Olympus ODMS Software the installation and setup was a breeze, the full install, setup and training was completed in one day, testament to the user friendliness of the ODMS Software.
The response to the new system has been overwhelming, all the users have raved at the usability of the new software and the new DS-7000’s have certainly been well accepted among the Pathologists. I would think the addition of the Slide Switch Operation, a missing feature on the old DS-3300 has certainly had a lot to do with that. The system has been such a success that Head of Purchasing for Forensic Pathology Services Mr. Omar Galant is pushing to have similar systems installed at other Forensic Pathology Services branches throughout the Western Cape. He is also considering pairing the new ODMS Software up with the award winning Dragon Naturally Speaking Voice Recognition Software in the near future. This would be a match made in heaven as the ODMS Software has been designed and configured to fully integrate with Dragon making it one powerful, easy to use software package.
Our thanks go out to Mr. Omar Galant and the rest of the decision makers at Forensic Pathology Services for once again putting their faith in Olympus to carry out one of the most critical roles within their business, reinforcing the fact that Olympus is the number one choice in Professional Audio world wide. We look forward to building on our working relationship in the future while maintaining the level of service and high quality products you have come to expect.
